Preamble
We, the members of the Walter Prescott Webb Historical Society, in order to promote interest in the history of [Institution Name] and [County Name] County; support the [Museum Name] through exhibitions; assist in collecting historical resources for the Texas section of the [Library Name] Library; and work with the [County Name] County Historical Commission to identify and preserve historic landmarks, do hereby establish this constitution for the Webb Society Chapter of [College/University Name], [City], Texas.
Article I – Name
The name of this organization shall be the [Chapter Name] of the Walter Prescott Webb Historical Society.
Article II – Membership
Membership is open to all students, faculty, and staff of [College/University Name] who are interested in Texas and local history. Former members may retain membership by paying current dues.
Article III – Dues
Chapter dues shall be [insert amount or “none”]. Members are encouraged to subscribe to the Southwestern Historical Quarterly and Touchstone.
Article IV – Officers and Their Duties
- Section I. Officers shall include: President, Vice President, Second Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Reporter, and Historian. Additional officers may be appointed as needed.
- Section II. The President shall lead meetings, appoint committees, and oversee chapter functions.
- Section III. The Vice President shall lead in the President’s absence and organize programs.
- Section IV. The Second Vice President shall coordinate membership and publicity.
- Section V. The Secretary shall maintain meeting records and membership lists.
- Section VI. The Treasurer shall manage dues and chapter finances.
- Section VII. The Reporter shall submit updates to local and campus media.
- Section VIII. The Historian shall document chapter activities and preserve archival materials.
Article V – Elections
Officers serve one-year terms. A nominating committee shall present candidates, with additional nominations accepted from the floor. No officer may serve consecutive terms in the same role.
Article VI – Meetings
The chapter shall meet regularly during the academic year, excluding summer. At least two field trips should be held annually.
Article VII – Resignations
Resignations must be submitted in writing to the President.
Article VIII – Amendments
This constitution may be amended by a two-thirds vote of members at any regular meeting.
Article IX – Attendance
Members are expected to attend meetings regularly. One unexcused absence per semester is allowed. Members must notify an officer in advance of an absence.
