Get Involved with the Webb Society

The Walter Prescott Webb Historical Society brings Texas history to life through student-led chapters at colleges and universities across the state. Whether you’re interested in launching a new chapter or growing an existing one, this guide outlines how to get started, lead meaningful community projects, and celebrate student and sponsor achievements.

Explore what it takes to start a chapter, plan impactful activities, and join a statewide network of historians dedicated to preserving and exploring Texas’s diverse heritage.

Start a Chapter

Create a Webb Society chapter at your college or university and join a statewide network of students passionate about Texas history. With flexible guidelines and support from Texas State Historical Association (TSHA), chapters can tailor their structure to meet local needs and interests.

Plan Chapter Activities

Bring history to life through hands-on projects like oral histories, community fairs, field trips, and archival research. Chapters are encouraged to design programs that reflect their region’s unique heritage while developing valuable academic and leadership skills.

Awards & Recognition

Outstanding sponsors are recognized annually for their leadership and dedication to student success. Texas State Historical Association (TSHA) presents awards at major events to celebrate educators who make Webb Society chapters thrive.

Touchstone, Student Research in Print

Touchstone is the annual journal of the Webb Society, showcasing outstanding undergraduate research in Texas and local history.

Published each March since 1982, Touchstone features award-winning student papers and original scholarship. Back issues and a cumulative index (Volumes I–XXV) are available for purchase. For submissions or inquiries, contact webbsociety@tshaonline.org.

You can also become a Webb Society program sponsor—a financial supporter helping us expand student opportunities across the state (not to be confused with local chapter sponsors).

🏅 Volunteer for Texas History Day

Help shape the future of history education by serving as a judge or event volunteer at Texas History Day. Your time and expertise can make a lasting impact on student participants.

📅  Attend TSHA Events

Connect with fellow history enthusiasts by joining us at conferences, lectures, and community events across Texas. Check the calendar for what’s coming up next.

💖 Donate to Support Education

Your gift helps TSHA provide meaningful educational programs, scholarships, and publishing opportunities for students across the state. Every contribution makes a difference.

🤝 Become a Program Sponsor

Support the Webb Society as a program sponsor and help expand student access to historical research, mentorship, and statewide recognition. This is a financial sponsorship, not a chapter leadership role.
